Each time I attempted to start the application, nothing happened, so I began further troubleshooting:. I'm currently running on version 1. Now that I'm looking closer at the latest download page I wonder if this has anything to do with the User installer vs the System installer. I don't have time at the moment to test out whether the same problem occurs with the System installer, but if I'm able to before you find a resolution to this problem, I'll report back my findings.

I just took latest update as suggested by vs code update notification. It did nots tart the visual code automatically. So I went and manually tried to start the vs code.

I installed previous version and it worked. For that previous version also I tried taking the update and ended up with same situation. I uninstalled VS Code and reinstalled using the above installer, and I continued to experience the same problems, so. Can you try this, but this time run it in a command line with code --verbose? I then ran the 1.

The application did not start nor was there any output on the command line. I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled with the system installer and received the same results. I've reverted back to 1. These results are what Code returns if there's already a Code instance running. Can you restart your system, to be sure there's no Code running? Same results like everybody mentioned above. No output for code --verbose with vscode x64 1.

No other instance of code. Also restarted the system but didn't help. I did exactly the same as n8harmon described except that I did not downgraded, yet. Latest VS Code version won't start, both "regular" and "user" versions. Maybe this helps debugging the issue: I'm having exactly the same problem with Slack Desktop app version 3.

Nothing happens when the app is started. Slack 3. I'm only mentioning it, as both VSCode and Slack use Electron under the hood, so this might be connected.

Additionally, the issue occurs only on Windows 7 but for everyone on my team using this OS. I've had no issues on Windows 10 so far. I sometimes see Code.

MSDN Platforms. About the Visual Studio family. You can update a Visual Studio extension on your system by using Extensions and Updates to install the updated version.

If you create an updated version of an extension, you can signify it as updated by incrementing the version number in the VSIX manifest. Updates are installed when the VSIX manifest of the incoming extension has the same ID as the installed one and a higher Version number.

If the Version number is the same or lower, the package cannot be installed. If the ID values do not match, the package that is not yet installed is recognized as a separate extension. To help prevent conflicts during development, we recommend that you uninstall earlier versions of extensions in progress, and also uninstall or disable any other potentially conflicting extensions.

So I have a project that has two branches, the master and gh-pages. I am doing all my work on my master branch and want to put those changes onto the gh-pages branch. I am quite confused on how to do that through Visual Studioas well as the differences between merging from master into the gh-pages and merging from gh-pages into master. I know some people have it so that gh-pages will be 'somewhat automatically' updated everytime changes are made in master, but all I want to do is update my gh-pages branch with changes from master when I need to.

Can someone explain to me how to do so through Visual Studio? I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge of git commands and workflow. Any help is appreciated! Take a look at the Merge in VS section.

Hopefully this should provide enough of a guide for you to perform the requested action. Here's a quick snippet from the page that specifically shows the steps on merging branches. You'll need to just change the branches that are being referenced to the ones that you're using. Go to Team Explorer and select Branches.

Same as Git command, you need to be on master to merge dev branch. Off the top of my head, open the Team Explorer view. At the top there's a drop down where you can click 'Branches'. After clicking that you will see your master and gh-pages branch. Make sure you're on the branch you want to merge into i.

A context menu will appear with 'merge from' option.

To learn why Visual Studio Code, the product, has a different license than the open-source vscode GitHub repositorysee issue 60 for a detailed explanation.

The github. Not only do we write code and work on issues there, we also publish our roadmap and monthly iteration and endgame plans.

The source code is available to everyone under a standard MIT license. Visual Studio Code is a distribution of the Code - OSS repository with Microsoft specific customizations including source codereleased under a traditional Microsoft product license. While these additions make up a very small percentage of the overall distribution code base, it is more accurate to say that Visual Studio Code is "built" on open source, rather than "is" open source, because of these differences.

Most extensions link to their license on their Marketplace page or in the overview section, when you select an extension in the Extensions view. Extension authors are free to choose a license that fits their business needs.
